Obituary for Sheri Lee Markell
Sheri Lee Markell, age 50 of Campbell, New York passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022. She was born on September 6, 1971 in Corning, New York to Clifford and Donna (Blanchard) Whitehead Jr. Sheri graduated in 1989 from Campbell Central School. She married Donald Markell on October 11, 1997. She went on to receive an RN degree from Corning Community College in 1997 and later received a BSN from Phoenix University in 2006. She was planning to pursue her Master's degree in January, to further her knowledge in the career she was so passionate about.
She was employed by the Corning Hospital for 33 years, serving in numerous capacities, beginning with unit clerk, LPN, RN, and moving up into supervisory and management positions. She also took the lead in implementing a state of the art medical records system at the hospital. She recently started a new position for Guthrie Systems as an RN Staff Scheduling Administrator, with a goal of continuing to improve the quality of patient care and employee satisfaction.
Sheri carried on her parents' legacy at Corning Hospital through her compassion, dedication, and love for the patients, the hospital staff, and especially her colleagues.
Sheri was happy in shorts and a Mickey Mouse t-shirt, sitting by a fire with a few beers and her loved ones by her side. She was an avid NY Giants fan, and loved kayaking, singing and dancing to country music and hard rock, spending the day "jeeping," and finishing the day off with an ice cream cone. She loved to travel with her husband and friends, and especially her mother and daughter.
Sheri is survived by her loving husband, Donnie; daughter: Jenna (Aaron Freeman ) Markell; mother: Donna (Joe Berto) Whitehead; brother: Clifford "Chipper" (Pam Hulings) Whitehead III, nephew: Cody Hill; great niece: Adalynn Hill; numerous aunts and uncles including a special aunt: Mary Lee (Joe) Welch; multiple cousins, great nieces and nephews; step children: Tanya Keller and children, Jessica (Barry) Houck, and many close friends.
Sheri was predeceased by her father, Clifford "Butch" Whitehead Jr., father in law, and grandparents.
Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 West Pulteney Street, Corning, NY on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 3:00pm-5:00pm and from 7:00pm-9:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00am. Burial will be held at 2:00pm at the family plot in Nondaga Cemetery.
