Obituary for Ronald "Ron" E. Sanford

Ronald "Ron" Sanford passed away at the Steuben Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Bath, NY on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. He was 89 years old.

Ron was born in Dansville, NY to James and Dorothy Sanford on December 23, 1932. He was a graduate of Northside High School. Ron served in the US Army Signal Corp. stationed in Ethiopia. Ron was employed as a machinist at the former Westinghouse Plant in Horseheads, NY and at the IST Corp in Big Flats, NY for over 45 years. He married the love of his life, Martha Heaton on October 22, 1955. They celebrated 66 years together.

At the age of 16, Ron, his twin brother, Don and another scout were awarded the Highest Life Saving award in scouting. This was due to their rescue of an 11 year-old boy from a powerline tower. Ron's favorite past time was building houses for his family. His shop was his pride and joy. Ron always looked forward to happy hour afternoons with friends at the Sit'N'Bull.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; two daughters: Dr. Julie Sanford and son-in-law, Dr. Richard Marciniak of Colorado Springs, CO, Kimberly Slade of Ellenton, FL; grandson, Adam Marciniak; sister-in-law, Shirley Waltman; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and awesome friends: Jon Draper and Kenny "Conehead" Hendley.

Ron was predeceased by his parents; twin brother, Don Sanford; brother, Carl Sanford; sisters: Mina Jean Sanford, Patricia Bell, and Dorothy Manning.

A very special thank you to the staff at Steuben Center in Bath, NY for the compassionate care Ron received.

Ron is a member of the Coopers Plains Community Church. A private funeral service will be held for the family. Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.
