Robert T. Cunningham, age 82, of Corning, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. He was born on September 5, 1940 in Corning, the son of the late Hugh and Lois (Walsh) Cunningham. He married Joani A. Spart on April 3, 1976. She predeceased him on August 1, 2021.

Robert loved his family and he cherished the time he spent with them. He attended Corning Free Academy and Corning Community College and he was a veteran of the US Navy. Robert was a machinist at Corning, Inc. retiring after many years of service.

He is survived by his sons, Joseph McUmber of Campbell and Thomas McUmber of Corning, grandchildren, Sarah Davidson, Dustin McUmber, Brent McUmber and Kyle McUmber, great grandchildren, Ethan, Jack, Lennon, Lucas, Harper, and Elijah, brother, Michael Cunningham. sisters, Jean Houghtaling and Jane Cunningham, and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his siblings Edward Leahy, John Leahy, and Mary Kay Leahy Hughes.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street Corning, on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A celebration of Robert's life will follow there at 7:00 pm with Fr. Pat Conner officiating. Burial will take place at Bath National Cemetery on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm where Full Military Honors will be accorded .
