Obituary for Raymond J. Passmore

Raymond J. Passmore passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2021 in Pittsford, NY at the age of 96. Raymond was born on May 15, 1925. He was the son of Victor and Frances O’Bryan Passmore.

Raymond was a lifelong resident of Corning/Painted Post, New York. He graduated from St. Mary`s Parochial School and the Corning Free Academy. He enlisted in the Army in August 1943. He was deployed to the Pacific Theater during World War II, and saw combat in New Guinea and the Dutch East Indies. Raymond served with distinction and received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and three Battle Stars. Most of his working life was at Corning Glass Works where he was a forklift operator at Main Plant and Fallbrook.

His beloved wife of 64 years, Pauline, predeceased him in 2014. He is also predeceased by siblings Victor Edward Passmore, John Paul Passmore, Ronald Thomas Passmore, Joan Mary Letson, Patricia Ann Wray and Carol Margaret Moulthrop. Surviving are his five sons, Raymond (Anne) of Rochester, Donald (Jan) of Corning, David (Jeanne) of Virginia, Jon of Painted Post, and James (Brenda) of Painted Post. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

His loyalty and devotion to Pauline and his family were unshakeable. In his younger days he rarely missed a mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He also loved casino trips, his furry companions, and never met a squirrel he didn’t enjoy watching and feeding, much to the dismay of his neighbors. We remember this kind, humble, and gentle man with love and gratitude.

Arrangements are with Phillips Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A prayer or graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Pittsford for Ray’s excellent care over the last 3 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America or St. Mary’s Church, Corning.
