Obituary for Nancy Jo Marshall

Nancy Jo Marshall, age 65 of Painted Post, NY passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Guthrie Corning Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on March 22, 1957 in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of the late Elwin and Betty (Cappelli) Marshall. Nancy was a graduate of Corning Painted Post West High School, class of 1975 and later attended Corning Community College where she obtained her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts.

Nancy was employed by the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities in Rochester, NY where she served in several positions in the business operations for 30 years, retiring in 2014. While living in Rochester she was an avid volunteer for the Special Olympics, and often traveled to statewide competitions to support the athletes. She enjoyed international travel with her family as well, venturing to Brazil, Africa, and Italy.

Nancy will be remembered for her devotion to her family. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and family reunions. She moved back to Painted Post in 2018 to spend more time with her family, especially her Dad; and get reacquainted with her old friends. She was a proud member of the Viking Girls class of 1975. Her favorite sports teams were the NY Giants, Boston Red Sox, and Penn State football, always making it known that she was not a fan of the Buffalo Bills.

Nancy is survived by her sisters: Diane (Terry Stutzman) Marshall of Corning, NY, Janet Marshall of St. Paul, MN, Marilyn (Terry) Congdon of Fairport, NY; brothers: Richard Marshall of Reading, PA and Thomas Marshall of Painted Post, NY. She was a beloved Aunt to: Katie (Ben), Sarah, Elizabeth, Mac (Olivia), David, Emma (Tony), Alyson, Alexis (Jake); and a devoted Great Aunt to: Monte, Christopher, Sloane, June, Josie, Harvey and Nellie. She is also survived by several cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her niece, Hannah.

Family members would also like to thank the kind nurses and doctors in the ICU Department at Guthrie Corning Hospital for their care and kindness shown to Nancy during her stay.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street, Corning, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 2:30 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 155 State Street Corning, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery.
