Obituary for Michael Edwin Peet

Michael Edwin Peet, 84, of Corning, New York passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, New York.

He was born on Halloween, 1938, to Wilson and Mary Peet, the second of their three children. He graduated from Painted Post (NY) High School in 1958, and enlisted in the United States Army in 1961, serving two years as a clerk typist stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon his discharge, he returned home and began working, eventually enjoying a career as a loans specialist and collections officer for the former Columbia Bank in Corning and CCSD Federal Credit Union in Elmira Heights, New York, from which he retired in 2006.

Michael married Carmella Brewer on September 18, 1976. Together they raised three children. He made innumerable connections with people. No matter where he went around his hometown, he always knew someone, and was happy to chat with them.

Upon his retirement, Michael embraced his life-long love of trains. He deeply enjoyed time spent with his family, and also became very fond of his recliner, from which he would enjoy watching sporting events on television.

Michael is survived by his wife Carmella; their daughter Michele (Ted) Minner; their sons Thomas (Anne Haefner) and Richard (Leslie Mulcahy); grandchildren Jon Minner, Olivia Peet and Katya Mulcahy; brother Richard (Evon); a niece and several nephews, as well as several close friends.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brother Thomas and sister-in-law Marilyn.

Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street, Corning, NY on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to Noon. A funeral service will immediately follow at Noon with Fr. Patrick Connor officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Corning.
