Obituary for Maurice Francis Courtney
Maurice Francis “Frank” Courtney, age 95, of Corning, New York passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. He was born on April 8, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York to Michael and Catherine (Carberry) Courtney.
He served his country in both the Army (1945-1946), and the Air Force (1950-1954). Maurice was happily married for 46 years to Marjorie Thresher and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2000. Thereafter, with good fortune he had a loving companion, Suzy, for 15 years. He worked as a construction superintendent for many construction companies throughout his career. Later in life he always kept active and enjoyed playing cards at various legions and VFWs.
Maurice is survived by three children: Debe (Myron) Rumsey of Horseheads, Diane (Peter) Force of Coopers Plains, Clayton Courtney of Corning; three grandchildren: Ryan Rumsey, Alexis Kelly, Alyssa Smith; nieces and nephews: Karl, Christine, Peter, Susan.
In addition to his parents and spouse, Maurice was predeceased by his siblings: James, Cornelius "Neil", Mary, Josephine, James Michael, Catherine; recent friend, Donna Chapman.
It was Maurice's wish to donate his body to science. Phillips Funeral Home, Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.
