Obituary for Margaret Sylvia Dobson
Margaret Sylvia Dobson, age 79 of Painted Post, NY passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers.
Born on February 3, 1943 in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Iverson) Salley. Sylvia was a graduate of Northside High School, class of 1960. Sylvia spent her years working as a homemaker and raising her children.
In her younger years, Sylvia will be remembered for her love of vegetable gardening and tending to her flowers. She was a lover of all animals. Sylvia will be remembered most for her generous and giving spirit. Even when she didn't have much herself, she would always look out for someone else in need to offer what she could - whether by offering a warm meal or a few dollars. She was a truly selfless soul.
Sylvia is survived by her son, John (Colleen) Dobson of Corning, NY; daughter, Susan (Matthew) McNeill of Lindley, NY; grandchildren: Melissa (Joshua) Nobriga, Kyle McNeill, John and Alyssa Dobson, Joe Kostolansky, Nicholas and Devin Dobson; great grandchildren: Hailie, Luke and Chelsea, Nevaeh; brothers: Dave, Dan and Steve Salley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, John Jack Pope; son, Daniel Dobson; step-son, William Pope; and grandson, Matthew McNeill.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street Corning, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3:00 pm, with Celebrant Barb Rossi officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot in Hope Cemetery, Corning at a later date.
