Obituary for Lydia B. Marusak

Lydia B. Marusak, age 94 formerly of Corning, NY passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in Williamsville, NY.

Born on April 30, 1928 in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Laura (Alteri) Bettone. Lydia was a 1946 graduate of Corning Free Academy (Senior Class Vice President). She married Francis J. Marusak on July 25, 1953, he predeceased her on August 19, 1989. Lydia worked as a secretary in the Accounting Dept. for Corning Inc. for 7 years before beginning her work as a full-time wife and mother. After her children were grown she worked as a part-time bookkeeper for the Village of Riverside.

Lydia was an active member at St. Vincent de Paul Church and donated many hours of her time and talents for their volunteer activities and for the Corning Memorial Hospital. In her free time, Lydia enjoyed using her crafting talents as a floral arranger and crocheter. She was a consummate Italian cook and spent countless hours canning tomatoes and grape jellies from the family garden. She also enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and card games. Lydia’s greatest achievement was reflected in her endless dedication to her family. She devoted her life to her husband and to raising and supporting her children as well as inspiring them with her devotion to the Catholic faith.

Lydia is survived by her children: Joseph Marusak of Tonawanda, NY, Jane (Tylor) Burton of Catonsville, MD, Nancy (William) Meyer of Broomfield, CO; five grandchildren: Katie (Thomas) Carroll, Tylor Burton, Emily (Sam Stuart) Burton, Joseph Meyer and Rachel Meyer; two great-grandsons: Owen and Wyatt Carroll; and two nieces: Mary Lou Wheat and Laura Cieslica.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lydia was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Angelina and James Carlineo; and nephew, James Carlineo, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street Corning, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 9:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 155 State Street Corning, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
