Obituary for Joan Arlene Slater

Joan Arlene Slater, age 85 of Horseheads, New York passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Taylor Health Center in Urbana, NY. She was born on July 14, 1936 in Corning, New York to Earl and Mary (Jordain) McFall. She married Richard Slater on February 6, 1965 at the Painted Post United Methodist Church.

Joan enjoyed playing Bingo at the nursing home with her good friend Amanda, along with other friends she met. You could find her watching Turner Classic Movies, listening to country music, and in her earlier years, she enjoyed playing cards with her husband and friends. Joan also loved to dance; she and Richard would just float across the dance floor in a beautiful fashion. She was an avid shopper, enjoyed having fun with her family, and was a great nurturer of her family. She prided herself by having a tidy house. Joan also cared about her appearance-- especially her hair--not a single hair was ever out of place.

Joan is survived by her husband, Richard Sr. of Horseheads, NY; 4 children: Robbie Slater of Sullivan, MO, Kristy (RJ) Spencer of Wellington, FL, Mary (David) Button of Lansing, NY, Richard (Wayne) Slater Jr. of Greenwood Lake, NY; 4 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; uncle: Bill (Sheila) McFall of Bradford; aunt: Barbara McFall of Corning, cousins: Dorthey Morter of Palm Coast, FL, Chuck Aldrich of Caton, NY, along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brother, John McFall.

Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street, Corning, NY on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 11:00am-Noon. A funeral service will be held at Noon with Rev. Troy Preston officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery.

Joan loved animals, especially cats and those wishing can direct donations to your local SPCA in her honor.
