Obituary for James M. "Jim" Harrison

James M. "Jim" Harrison, age 88 of Campbell, NY passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at his home.
Born on May 13, 1933 in Conewango, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Iva (Chapman) Harrison. Jim was a graduate of Randolph Central High School, class of 1951 and had kept in touch with his classmates at their annual reunions. He married Helen Kriedeman, the love of his life, on December 22, 1955 and they celebrated nearly 77 years of happy marriage before her passing in November 2011. Jim worked as the office manager for Knight Settlement Sand and Gravel out of Bath, NY for 27 years before his retirement. Earlier in his career, he also served in the US Army in the Korean War.

Jim was an avid sports fan, especially baseball. He loved his Yankees and Bills, and, most recently followed the Braves, due to the fact that his great-grandsons in Atlanta are avid fans. Helen was a Red Sox fan, but that did not get in the way of their happiness and mutual respect of the others’ team. Jim also was an avid gardener, known for great vegetables and fruits, and his strawberry jam. Jim also loved his family, and he and Helen spent many road trips supporting their grandsons in baseball tournaments across the east coast. They loved to square dance, and traveled to follow their favorite callers and experience new venues with friends new and old. Jim continued his travel after Helen’s passing, covering much of the US. Jim made friends easily, and is well remembered in Campbell, where he lived for 63+ years, on Hilton Head Island, and many dancing and sports venues in between.

Jim is survived by his son, Jamie (Patty) Harrison of Hilton Head Island, SC; grandsons: Brian (Hilary) Harrison of Brookhaven (Atlanta), GA, and Greg (Kelsey) Harrison of East Cobb (Atlanta) GA; and great grandsons: Patrick, Edmond, Henry and Hudson Harrison.

A graveside service will be held at the family plot in Hope Cemetery of Campbell, NY on Friday, November 12 at 11AM. Visitation will be at the Hope Cemetery beginning at 10AM, weather permitting. Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name may be sent to the Campbell United Methodist Church, 8516 Main St., Campbell, NY 14821 or a favorite charity of your choice.
