Obituary for Gerald E. Jones
Gerald E. Jones, age 91 of Painted Post, NY passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. Born on May 14, 1931 in Elmira, NY, he was the son of the late Fred and Emma (Nichols) Jones.
Gerald married Joanne Searfoss on September 24, 1952 at the First United Methodist Church in Milan, PA. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. He worked as a Carpenter for Corning Glass Works for 39 years before his retirement.
Gerald will be remembered for his love of dancing - having square danced for over 50 years alongside Joanne. When they weren't dancing, they were traveling - having visited almost every state in the U.S. and Korea, Mexico and Europe. He was an avid wood carver. Each year he would carve a special ornament for each of his family members at Christmas time. He also enjoyed yearly trips to Oshkosh, WI to watch the airshows with his son and grandchildren. Gerald was someone who was always willing to help others. His family meant everything to him and his greatest joy came watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren at their various sporting events.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Joanne Jones of Painted Post; children: Brian (Barb) Jones of Painted Post, James (Lisa) Jones of Painted Post; grandchildren: Kelly (Kevin), Jeff, Sara (Archie) and Emily; great grandchildren: Ashton, Grace, Cooper, Max, Rowen and Hudson; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by brother, Bernard Jones; and sister, Beverly Jones.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street Corning, NY. A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3:00 pm, Rev. Connie Seifert officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Woodlawn National Cemetery.
