Geoffrey Mourhess, 46, of Ocean City, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Geoffrey was born on March 12, 1976 in Corning, New York to Michael and Roxanne Mourhess (Lee). Geoffrey graduated from Corning East High School in 1994. After high school, Geoffrey attended Corning Community College where he enjoyed playing lacrosse. He then moved to the Baltimore, MD area, eventually settling along the Maryland shore where he lived most of his adult life and worked as a manager at the acclaimed Cafe Mirage restaurant.
Geoffrey loved his friends and family and his daily FaceTime calls to his mom became a ritual. Geoffrey was a self-proclaimed “foodie” who enjoyed preparing and eating good food for himself and equally as much for others, always pairing with just the right craft cocktail or glass of wine. Geoffrey had a passionate spirit and deep love for animals. He rarely was without a four-legged friend who regularly travelled with him. When he was not working, Geoffrey embraced his love of music, painting and reading. As an avid guitar player and song writer, he could always be found playing the guitar; whether it was for his dog, Sophia, for a group of friends or family, along the water at the family cottage on Keuka Lake, or periodically at a local venue. Geoffrey was kind, gracious and always charitable to others.
Geoffrey is survived by his parents; his sister Alexis Helfrich (Brian); his nephew Evan and his niece Olivia of Fort Mill, SC as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Harold and Margaret Lee and paternal grandparents, Harry and Sylvia Mourhess. He is also survived by his close friends who were his Maryland family: Jay and Krista; and Patrick and Emma; and Gary and Gwen; and John and Tony.
There will be a private family viewing, followed by a celebration of life at a later date. Phillips Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
