Obituary for Gary L. Brockway
Gary L. Brockway, age 79 of Savona, NY, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.
He was born on August 24, 1942 in Corning, New York to Leon and Norva (Roloson) Brockway. Gary was a graduate of Northside High School, class of 1960. He obtained an Associates in Business from Alfred State College. He married Barbara Fuller on July 8, 1989.
He was employed as a supervisor with Steuben County Social Service with over 30 years of service. Gary lived a long and active retirement. He enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures including hunting, fishing, and boating; however he also had an adventurous side - sky diving at 76 years old.
He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed working on many construction projects. He put great effort to help those in need volunteering at the Shepherds Cupboard-Food Pantry. He was currently serving on the Board of Directors for Steuben Rural Electric.
He will be remembered as a humble man who was never looking for recognition of his service.
Gary is survived by his wife: Barbara Brockway; seven children: Dean (Luise) Brockway, Karron ( Dan) Hubbard, Peggy-Sue (Dave) Robbins, Bruce (Rocco Chiccarello) Brockway, Brian (Sarah) Hetrick, Matthew Hetrick, Shawn Hetrick; grandchildren: Ryan (Lori) Brockway, Ashley (Gerry Salbego) Sick, Andy (Megan) Hubbard, Emily (Ricky Taft) Hubbard, Rachel Zydanowicz, Kara (Mike) Glick, Gabrielle Robbins, Danny Robbins, Emily Robbins, Andrew Hetrick; great grandchildren: Madeline Brockway, Cadence Sick, Kendall Sick, Brenna Sick, Brayleigh Sick, Chanel Salbego, Mason Salbego, Hayden Hubbard, Maggie Hubbard, Owen Hubbard; sisters: Nancy (Jim) Clark, Lisa (Ray) Zaun.
It was Gary's wish that there be no services. Phillips Funeral Home, Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.
