Obituary for Flora E. Buck

Flora “Flo” E. (Hand) Buck, 88 of Lindley, passed away at home surrounded by her family on June 22, 2021. Flo was born February 18, 1933 in Elmer, PA and grew up in Painted Post where her father was a farm hand for Dann’s Dairy. Flo was a 1951 graduate of Painted Post High School where she earned her pin as a Future Homemaker. She married Raymond D. Buck August 19, 1953. He predeceased her in 2019. Flo attended Tuscarora Baptist Church where she had many friends.

Flo was one of the most selfless people one could meet and spent much of her life helping others. She was always there to help anyone in need and lend her support whenever she could. She is an indelible part of many lives which she helped improve.

Flo’s first working career started as a bookkeeper for King’s Dairy in Riverside. Countless people know her as “Aunt Flo”, even though they are no relation, from her years of babysitting out of her home in Painted Post. Later, after moving to Lindley, she completed her certification to be a teacher’s aide for Special Education in the early days of mainstreaming mentally handicapped students into the local school systems, a position she took much pride in. After leaving teaching she opened her home and became a Family Care Provider where her first “client” was her beloved Richie (Richard Audinwood) who became more a son to her and was with her for the remainder of his life. She devoted years to several other clients and intermittently cared for other adults and children with physical and mental handicaps to help their families take respite. Flo never felt the need for respite herself, preferring to stay busy caring for those unable to care for themselves…and her gardens, blueberries, grandchildren, geese, chickens, and most loved dogs.

Flo has been lovingly cared for the past several years by some amazing women. The family would like to thank each one for their caring for Flo as if she were their own family, especially Bridgett, Brenda, Teresa and Margie.

She is survived by her children, Flora (Cliff) Dickerson of Lindley, Joey (Penny) Buck of Corning, and Wendy Lawrence of Corning; grandchildren, Steve VanCise of Lindley, Bryan VanCise of Bath, Kristopher Buck of Tallahassee Fl, and Hayleigh Fletcher of Elmira; great grandchildren: Alyssa VanCise and Tyler VanCise;, brother-in-law, Bernard (Mary) Buck, many nieces, nephews, and her feline companion and protector, Molly. Flora was predeceased by her husband, Raymond D. Buck, grandson, Adam VanCise and life-long foster son, Richard Audinwood. son-in-law, Robert Lawrence, and siblings, Mary Ribble, and Dallas Hand Jr,
