Obituary for Carol J. Zaun
Carol J. Zaun, age 82 of Corning, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at her home surrounded by family.
Born on September 18, 1939 in Gassaway, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late August and Wretha (Nine) Cross. Carol was a graduate of Tyner High School in TN. She married her "pen pal" Kenneth Zaun on January 30, 1960. After her marriage Carol worked for Corning Glass Works before starting her family and raising her children. Once her children were grown she worked several jobs ending as a customer service rep for a local bank.
Carol was a woman of faith and a lifetime member of what is now Faith Lutheran Church in Corning. She was one out of the four ladies who founded the Corning Cinderella League. In her free time, Carol was an avid sewer and quilter. Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother and especially a great grandmother.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Zaun of Corning, NY; children: Raymond (Lisa) Zaun of Bath, NY, Candace (James) Peris of Horseheads, NY, Michelle (Rick Herrick) Clayberger of Corning, NY; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Torrey Glenn (Donna) Cross of Horseheads, NY; and two nephews.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her brother, August "Junior" Barton Cross, Jr.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home 17 W. Pulteney Street Corning, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 1:00 pm. A private burial will take place in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery.
